Hintlesham School Association

Welcome to the Hintlesham School Association!

The Hintlesham School Association, affectionately known as the HSA, is a group of parents who offer their time and energy, voluntarily, to organise events and activities throughout the year to raise valuable funds for the school. The aim of the HSA is to enrich our children’s school experience and learning and offer a supportive social network for parents, grandparents, carers, the school team and our local community.

What do we do?

We organise, fun and memorable fundraising events and activities for the school children, their families and the local community. There is an event approximately once a month, varying from film clubs, craft clubs, and cake/ice lolly sales to discos, quizzes, Christmas and strawberry fayres. We talk to our parents and the children to find out what events they’d like to see on the events calendar and do our best to organise events that will be enjoyed by all. We are honoured to have a very supportive and thriving local community which really enhances our events.

What are the funds used for?

The funds are used to support workshops and trips and to purchase resources, equipment and facilities that wouldn’t normally be within the school budget, such as, IT equipment, reading books and outdoor equipment. We are also keen to ensure some of the funds are used for those ‘little extras’ that hopefully make the children’s school days memorable, for example, an annual trip to see a pantomime. We work closely with our head teacher and her team to prioritise funding and have consulted with parents on use of the funds.

How do we work?

We meet approximately eight times a year to plan the events and discuss new ways of fundraising and hold an Annual General Meeting in November to formally share our efforts over the year and re-elect our committee. We work closely with the school team to co-ordinate activities and to share updates on areas of work and support specific projects, and always welcome the input from parents and the school children. Although we are an informal group, we are a registered charity and have key officer roles of chair, treasurer and secretary.

How to get involved?

There are so many ways for people to get involved and we are grateful for whatever way that is! We understand how precious time is and that everyone has a number of home and work commitments to juggle, so we are appreciative of as much or as little as people can offer. Being on the committee will not take up much of your time and we ask that you only do what you feel comfortable with. We have people who enjoy being involved with planning and idea generation, those who can offer pre-event preparations from home, others who like to help run stalls at events and some who are happy to help set up and pack away. There is a role for everyone and we welcome you all!

If you’d like to get involved, please contact us on hintleshamschoolassociation@gmail.com or ask for a committee member in the playground or the school office.

A final word...

Being part of the HSA is not just about fundraising; it is about taking an active part in the school community - parents and the school team working together really does contribute to the vibrancy and success of the school. It is a great way to become more involved with the school, to make great friends with other committee members and get to know other parents, and an opportunity to feel you are making a real difference to the school.
